Looking Back

When I started this project through WPCredits, I expected it to be an opportunity to practice photography while contributing to WordPress. Looking back, I realize the experience was much more than uploading images.

Throughout the project, I learned that every contribution goes through a review process designed to maintain the quality of the Photo Directory. Receiving both approvals and rejections helped me better understand what makes an image valuable for the community and how even small details can make a difference.

Contribution Summary

By the end of the project, I had submitted 24 photographs to the WordPress Photo Directory.

  • 24 photographs submitted
  • 20 photographs accepted
  • 4 photographs rejected

Although not every image was accepted, I consider the experience a success. Each review provided useful feedback and helped me better understand the standards used by the Photo Directory.

My Published Photographs

One of the most rewarding moments was seeing my photographs become part of the WordPress Photo Directory. Below are some of the images that were accepted during the review process.

Among them is one of my personal favorites, as well as a photograph of a horse that I wasn’t sure would be accepted. I also discovered that some images I expected to be rejected were approved, while others I considered stronger did not meet the directory’s standards. This reminded me that reviewing photographs from the perspective of a global public collection is different from evaluating them only based on personal preference.

More Than a Photography Project

One of the most valuable parts of this experience was learning more about the community space I photographed. Before visiting, I thought it was a relatively small place. However, while documenting it, I discovered that it offers many different areas and activities that support the local community.

Sharing these spaces through the WordPress Photo Directory made me realize that photography can help preserve and showcase places that many people around the world might never have the opportunity to visit. Contributing these images felt like a meaningful way to represent a small part of Costa Rica within a global open-source project.
